Western home decor has been growing in popularity over the last few years thanks to shows like Yellowstone and Outer Range.

We all want a little slice of a simpler life in the mountains where you can ride horses and rope cows all day.

Though adopting that lifestyle may not be in the cards for everyone, we can still infuse our day-to-day life with the feeling of the west.

A few well-placed antlers, a cow hide rug or too, and some rustic design touches is all it takes to achieve the modern western bedroom of your dreams.

So whether you live in the wild west, or you’re stuck in the suburbs of Minnesota somewhere, you’ll love these western bedroom ideas!

1. Windmill Ceiling Fan

Credit: @windmillceilingfans

Oftentimes, the places we add decor throughout our bedrooms are close to the floor or low along the wall.

The perfect way to draw the eye upwards and add some visual interest is by installing a unique ceiling fan!

I’m obsessed with this windmill fan because it takes an otherwise plain room and infuses it with country charm.

2. Brand Marking Bedding

The focal point of the bedroom is always, you guessed it, the bed.

So you want to make sure that your bedding matches the color palette or theme you’re trying to achieve or the room.

This brand marking bedding is the perfect infusion of western style and cozy adorable bedding. Finding the right bedding can drastically improve the look of your room!

3. Southwest Wall Decor

Credit: @ursulastrailofturquoise

Recently, I’ve been trying to up my wall decor game. I believe the key to really nailing a stunning wall display is with layering.

The way this homeowner has layered a pattern blanket or tapestry behind their painting is incredibly clever.

It adds depth and color to the space, makes the painting pop, and emphasizes the western theme!

4. Rustic Antique Finds

western bedroom ideas

Credit: @thegarmentgirl

If you want your western bedroom ideas to look authentic and full of character, then shopping vintage is a must.

Personally, I never let an antique store pass me by. You have to take this approach to get the best finds!

An above the bed hanging shelf is the perfect place to display your western rustic pieces.

5. Hanging Cow Hide

Credit: @sarahandfamm

We all know and love using cow hides as rugs, but they also look absolutely beautiful when hung on the wall.

They make the perfect choice for an accent wall and can easily be layered on top of to create a gallery wall.

Match the colors of your cow hide to your bedding to make the entire room look cohesive!

6. Western Wall Paper

Of all the western bedroom ideas on this list this one has to be my favorite.

Wallpaper has made a huge comeback in the past couple years, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

This vintage looking western style wallpaper is the perfect addition to this rustic log cabin style room. Wallpaper like this would look especially great in a child’s room!

7. Cactus Decor

Credit: @canadiantimberframes

There are certain images and themes that are core to the western design style and cactuses are one of them.

A great way to incorporate some more specific themes is to find standard bedroom items that resemble that theme.

These bedside cactus nightlights are a great example. Other great options include throw pillows, blankets with fun prints, and artwork.

8. Custom Bed Frame

western bedroom ideas

Credit: @kellikissack

Now obviously anything custom is going to have a higher ticket price, but if there’s a piece of furniture to spend more on, it’s definitely the bed.

We spend so much time in our beds and the better quality they are, the better our sleep, and therefore the better our lives.

This custom wooden western bed frame is to die for. Whether you can afford a custom piece or find something similar for sale, a frame like this will definitely make your bedroom feel like a ranch home!

9. Saddle Blankets

Credit: @coyote.kiley

Some people collect mugs, other people crystals, but in our house, we collect saddle blankets.

I never get tired of them, and it’s fun to find all kinds of different colorways and patterns.

A blanket ladder propped in the corner of your bedroom lined with beautiful saddle blankets is one of the more creative western bedroom ideas!

10. Wooden Bunk Beds

western bedroom ideas

Credit: @gingerbarber.interiordesign

If you’re looking to design a kid’s room in your ranch or western style home, consider cabin style bunk beds!

Not only will they save you tons of space for shared rooms, but I love how they look and how nostalgic they feel.

Your little ones will feel like they’re at summer camp every night!

11. Pink Pony Club

Credit: @cabin_in_the_ozark_mtns

You know what two things go together like peanut butter and jelly? Western home decor and the color pink!

I’m obsessed with this adorable cowgirl style bedroom that combines feminine pink sheets and accents with cow heads and hides.

I also love the ruffled curtains and how much country charm they bring to this western style bedroom!

12. Aztec Print Bedding

western bedroom ideas

Credit: @roamingh_designs

The bedroom in the photo above is the perfect example of how a neutral room can come alive with a colorful print.

All it takes is a large blanket with a southwest print to emphasize the western theme of your home decor!

I love how there is a subtle southwestern print also in the throw pillow and lamp base to tie the look of the room together.

13. Hanging Cow Skull

Credit: @riceandbeanscollective

A cow skull as wall decor is definitely not a new design choice, but I love the way it has been reimagined in the room above.

When most people think of using a skull in their decor, they pair it with dark colors and and gothic themes.

This photo goes to show that a cow skull can still be used in rooms that are brighter and more playful to just add a western touch!

14. Western Print Pillows

western bedroom ideas

Credit: @kershnercustomsilver

There are two different types of people when it comes to throw pillows on beds: those who love them and those who cannot stand them.

I’m in the love them boat because they can add so much personality to your bed and room!

Just imagine this room without these beautiful cowboy pillows! It wouldn’t be nearly as fun or unique.

15. Cowgirl Mural

Credit: @jimmyandtam

Talk about a bold choice for a bedroom! This bold choice definitely paid off.

This cowgirl bedroom is the thing of little girls’ dreams (I say little girls, but I think I also mean me too).

I think that people tend to go too safe when it comes to their bedroom decor, so I challenge you to think outside the box for some creative western bedroom ideas like this!

16. Minimalist Touches

western bedroom ideas

Credit: @decoristofficial

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good western theme, but I do think it can be really easy to take a theme too far until it’s campy.

This bedroom has perfectly balanced adding a few western touches without letting them overpower the space.

All it takes it a pair of hanging antlers or a southwestern print blanket draped on a chair to achieve this minimalist western look.

17. Hanging Hat Rack

Credit: @thewesternmomma

Have all those hats and nowhere to hang them? Time to get yourself a hat rack!

Cowboy hats are beautiful and don’t deserve to be stacked in a closet for no one to see.

Put them on display above your bed to add some rustic flare, but also to show off your beautiful (and often expensive) hats.

18. Matching Bedding and Wall Decor

western bedroom ideas

Credit: @knlzdesigns

Creative a cohesive design in the bedroom is easier said than done.

There’s a lot of different pieces to consider in a small space, and it’s tough to toe the line between cohesive and too matchy matchy.

A great way to solve this problem is to match your wall art to your bedding! It’s simple but effective and allows for variances in larger pieces.

19. Barn Doors and Beams

Credit: @robin.packard

There’s a lot you can achieve with accessories and smaller decor items, but often the most effective way to incorporate a design style is with the actual hardware in your home.

Consider installing wooden beams or a barn door to really elevate the design of your space!

Making changes like these may have higher budget requirements, but they will also raise the value of your home.

20. Rich Brown Tones

western bedroom ideas

Credit: @ranchandcointeriors_

One of my favorite ways to approach decorating an overwhelming space is to pick a color and run with it.

Brown is the perfect color to use this technique with because you can find it in so many textures and materials.

Brown hide rugs paired with wooden benches and velvet pillows feels rich and full of depth instead of boring!

21. Vintage Western Posters

Credit: @denaebeedlow

Old western movies are a huge part of the culture of western design and lifestyle.

Tie in this fun aspect of cowboy history by framing and displaying some of your favorite posters from old movies!

This will effortlessly make your theme come to life in your space and adds a playful touch to even the most conservative of rooms.

22. Antler Accents

western bedroom ideas

Credit: @ursulastrailofturquoise

There are all kinds of ways to use antlers in your home decor. Don’t exclude them to just hanging on a wall!

I’m obsessed with this incredible and ornate antler bench for the foot of the bed.

But even if you aren’t able to find a piece as unique as this one, adding some decorative antlers to bookshelves and nightstands will take you far.

23. Rustic Bedside Sconces

Credit: @cowboycasita

I love the look of matching sconces on either side of the bed. It’s the perfect way to frame the focal point of your room.

Choose a pair that is rustic with a lot of vintage charm to match your western vibes.

My pro tip is to always be sure to use amber colored light bulbs because cool toned bulbs will wash out your space.

24. Mixed Warm and Cool Tones

western bedroom ideas

Credit: @thefergfarm

People get too intense about not mixing metals or not mixing warm and cool tones.

In my opinion, there’s a way to do it that can take your home decor to the next level!

I love the way the homeowners above have mixed black and white accents with warm browns and rust colors to create a cozy oasis.

25. Boot Display Wall

Credit: @cheyswindle

Had to save the best for last on this list of western bedroom ideas.

I love when people find something they love and go all out with it and this boot display wall is the perfect example of this.

How adorable is it that they have a his and hers shelf for their respective boots? Paired with the cow print mirror in the middle, this idea makes the perfect western display.

More than ever, small businesses need our support! More than ever, small businesses need our support!

Between tariffs driving up prices for business owners and consumers tightening their wallets more and more every day, it matters now more than ever where we spend our dollar.

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely understand the ease and often the affordability of Amazon, but I’ve learned some things in the 5 months I haven’t used Amazon.

1. I never needed 80% of the things I was buying. I fell victim to the “must have” lists and “get it now while it’s on sale” posts ALL. THE. TIME. It was nothing that ever added value to my life.

2. I didn’t even end up liking half the things I bought. Forever my biggest argument for shopping local with clothes and home decor is that you CANNOT know if you like something until you hold it in your hands or try it on your body.

3. I learned to be patient with my purchases. When you’re shopping in person, you have the luxury of walking around the store. You spend time with the item, you consider it next to other items, and you give yourself time to put something back that you maybe didn’t need.

4. I was BURNINGGGG through paychecks from small Amazon orders. My bank account has been THANKING me for the decision to shop small and secondhand.

I have my own feelings about Amazon and its effect on the Earth and on local economies, but I hope that at least one of the reasons above can convince you to decrease your time on Amazon and increase your time in local stores.

I know it can feel overwhelming to make the shift to small and secondhand, but that’s why I started posting content on this page in the first place!

To try and make that transition feel easy and exciting for everyone. So if you’re looking for tips or inspiration, be sure to follow @romanticizingrach!

I’ve found some AWESOMEEE secondhand pieces this weekend that I’ll be sharing in a haul tomorrow. You guys will be GAGGED.

So what do you think? Are you on board?? 😍😍

This Tiffany shade has been sitting in my garage f This Tiffany shade has been sitting in my garage for months because the top busted, but I couldn’t get myself to just toss it 😩

I come across broken Tiffany shades at secondhand stores constantly!! Always for pennies and always beautiful just with some glass missing or a broken piece.

It always hurts my heart to leave them behind, but now I will be grabbing every single one I find 🥲

Just imagine a garden filled with planters like these 😍

In honor of hitting 100K and this awesome @siouxfa In honor of hitting 100K and this awesome @siouxfallsstage issue being published on the same day, I thought I’d take the time to tell you guys more about me!

You all know my name is Rachel and I live in a charming 100 year old little cottage in South Dakota. What you probably don’t know, though, is how we got here or what I’m doing when not at home! Here’s some things to know about me in no particular order 😍

1. I grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis! I love Minnesota with all my heart and am thankful to visit often as most of my immediate family still lives there ☺️

2. I studied musical theatre and dance at the University of South Dakota and have since leaned into a new role as choreographer in the Sioux Falls theatre scene! It has brought me so much joy to stay connected to this part of myself since becoming a mom. Sioux Falls theatre is the best 🫶🏻

3. I’ve lived in multiple states including New York and South Carolina, but have happily settled in South Dakota and I love this state with my whole heart 🦬

4. I started posting consistently last November and never could have guessed what an awesome community would have come from it! I’ve always been passionate about making my home a cozy and inviting space but never thought so many people would relate to my love for shopping small and secondhand 🥹

5. I work part time as a nanny/house manager for a wonderful family. It’s been the biggest blessing of my life to have a job that allows me to have Archer by my side everyday in his formative years. ❤️

I can’t express how grateful I am to have so many of you following along and giving me a place to be creative. Posting on this app has brought me so much happiness and has truly allowed me to find myself again after becoming a mom.

If you want to learn more about Sioux Falls theatre and meet the other amazing artists featured in this issue, make sure to check out the latest issue of @siouxfallsstage ! It’s a huge honor to be included among so many talented artists.

Something has been BUGGINNNGG me about this room f Something has been BUGGINNNGG me about this room for ages 😩

I absolutely adore the paneling in this room, and I think in my efforts to feature the beautiful wood, I tried to go minimal with the decor.

But what I actually needed was something with enough contrast to make the wood really pop!

I’m a sucker for a jute rug and initially thought that’s what I would put in this space. I fell DEEPLY in love with this unique shag from @revival , though, and I’m SO GLAD I decided to trust my gut. It’s the Rojda Shag Rug in 5x8! 😍

It’s the perfect amount of color and texture so the wood paneling gets to truly SHINE.

What do you think? Did I make the right call?? 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️
