Every year in the winter months, I experience a dramatic lull in motivation to make my house feel like a home. With all the snow, ice, and SALT, I’m in the mindset of keeping my house standing and without water damage and not even THINKING about decor.

Once those first few warm days start to roll in, though, I remember why I love home decor and design so much. My energy is RENEWED and I get so excited to make my house look beautiful again.

One of my favorite places to start in the spring is decorating my front porch. After months of shoveling, it always feels so good to be able to see the front of my house again!

I want to make it as inviting as possible every year to welcome in the new season. 2024 is all about taking it back to our roots with home decor.

It seems we’re all wishing for simpler times and reconnecting with nature. That’s why rustic decor is making such a comeback!

These rustic front porch decor ideas will make your home feel like that cozy cabin or cottage that you escape to when you’re daydreaming about escaping bills and responsibilities.

If you’re trying to figure out what to purchase to achieve this look, or even better, you’re planning to repurpose the things hanging around your home, this post is a great place to start for inspo!

What better way to bring that country rustic charm to your porch than by using outdoor recreation tools as decor!

I love the look of the wooden canoe in the corner paired with the criss cross snow shoes on the wall adjacent.

Nothing screams cozy cabin better than outdoor activity equipment just begging to be used. Everything has a dual function in true rustic fashion!

2. Hanging Baskets

These hanging wicker and rattan baskets create such an elegant and whimsical look in this modern rustic front porch decor.

Unfortunately, I live in South Dakota where the wind could take down a small tree, but if you’re in a less windy state, you have to try this look.

Paired with some twinkly string lights and a couple of potted plants, your guests won’t be able to take their eyes away from your stunning display.

Make a bold statement on your rustic front porch decor this spring with these incredibly gorgeous woven chairs.

You only need two to make a beautiful visual statement. Pair it with a statement patterned outdoor rug and some unique lighting fixtures so you can see the light fall through the weave!

5. Antique Watering Cans

If you’re unsure on how to fill a corner of your space, layer up on the antiques! It’s especially cool to layer a similar type of piece, like a watering can, but in different shapes and sizes for ultimate visual interest.

Watering cans are easy to find at most antique or thrift stores, so just pick one up whenever you come across them until you have enough to make a statement like the photo above.

You could leave them as is, or add flowers, greenery, and any other type of decor in them to make them pop.

6. Lanterns and Fresh Blossoms

If you have all kinds of vintage containers laying around your garage and backyard, make a stunning vignette on your front step by clumping them together.

Pick some wildflowers from around your yard to thoughtfully place in the openings and you’re rustic front porch decor is done, just like that.

Vintage lanterns are one of my favorite rustic decor pieces because they’re truly just stunning on their own, but you can always add a candle or battery-powered light inside to make it stand out.

7. Chopped Wood

The heart of rustic home decor is the balance of function and beauty, and a chopped wood stack hits the nail on the head for this look.

Don’t hide away your stash of wood for bonfires or indoor ovens behind a shed, display it on your front step to achieve this lovely look.

The color of the wood alone will add so much warmth and coziness to your space that you won’t have to do much else!

8. Western Printed Pillows

Some of us like to keep things simple and practical with our rustic front porch decor. If this is the case, choose just one place to add some design flare like a good pair of outdoor throw pillows.

I love the aztec/western style print as seen above. You could also go for some kind of hide print or a plain natural texture like wool.

For an added boost, layer on a quilt or patterned blanket to really make your front step stand out.

9. Vintage Milk Jugs

Large vintage milk jugs like these are so versatile and make for perfect porch decor.

If you ever spot a pair of these at your local thrift or on Facebook marketplace, don’t hesitate to snag them!

These look great year round and can be dressed up to be appropriate for any season. For spring and summer, you can either leave them as is, or stuff them with flowers and cattails for a cozy look.

10. Paint it Pink

If you’re scrolling through these rustic front porch decor ideas and thinking that nothing is quite making the statement you want, consider painting your porch!

Adding a pop of color is a surefire way to make your porch stand out against the neighbors.

I absolutely love this southern pink color, reminiscent of the design you see in Charleston homes. You could also opt for a deep green or something more Earth-toned for a beautiful effect.

11. Old Rocking Chair

The type of seating you choose for your front porch will probably be the biggest indicator of how the rest of your porch will look.

Since it’s likely to be some of the biggest furniture on your step, you want to make sure you’re purchasing items that fit you’re intended design style.

To achieve a rustic look, wooden rocking chairs are always a great choice that will look timeless for years to come.

12. Farm Signs

Hanging large vintage farm signs is a clever way to make a bold statement without much effort on your part.

Find one large sign you really love, or layer multiple smaller signs for a very cool effect that all your neighbors will be jealous of!

I can’t get over how cute and inviting this little hanging sign is. I can’t wait to incorporate something like this into my own rustic front porch decor.

The best thing about using a large vintage chest to decorate your front porch is it can also be used to hide all the ugly tools or shoes that tend to crowd front steps.

Use it to layer your potted plants, create height variations among your other porch pieces, or even as additional seating.

An antique chest will add a beautiful rustic flare to any front porch!

15. Reds, Plaids, and Ginghams

I love the look of layered plaids and can’t get enough of this green rug and yellow gingham blanket combo.

Throw in some Strawberry red pillows and you’ve got the cutest little cottage porch I’ve ever seen.

Especially when it comes to spring and summer decor, don’t shy away from bright colors that will make you smile and feel happy to come home to.

More than ever, small businesses need our support! More than ever, small businesses need our support!

Between tariffs driving up prices for business owners and consumers tightening their wallets more and more every day, it matters now more than ever where we spend our dollar.

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely understand the ease and often the affordability of Amazon, but I’ve learned some things in the 5 months I haven’t used Amazon.

1. I never needed 80% of the things I was buying. I fell victim to the “must have” lists and “get it now while it’s on sale” posts ALL. THE. TIME. It was nothing that ever added value to my life.

2. I didn’t even end up liking half the things I bought. Forever my biggest argument for shopping local with clothes and home decor is that you CANNOT know if you like something until you hold it in your hands or try it on your body.

3. I learned to be patient with my purchases. When you’re shopping in person, you have the luxury of walking around the store. You spend time with the item, you consider it next to other items, and you give yourself time to put something back that you maybe didn’t need.

4. I was BURNINGGGG through paychecks from small Amazon orders. My bank account has been THANKING me for the decision to shop small and secondhand.

I have my own feelings about Amazon and its effect on the Earth and on local economies, but I hope that at least one of the reasons above can convince you to decrease your time on Amazon and increase your time in local stores.

I know it can feel overwhelming to make the shift to small and secondhand, but that’s why I started posting content on this page in the first place!

To try and make that transition feel easy and exciting for everyone. So if you’re looking for tips or inspiration, be sure to follow @romanticizingrach!

I’ve found some AWESOMEEE secondhand pieces this weekend that I’ll be sharing in a haul tomorrow. You guys will be GAGGED.

So what do you think? Are you on board?? 😍😍

This Tiffany shade has been sitting in my garage f This Tiffany shade has been sitting in my garage for months because the top busted, but I couldn’t get myself to just toss it 😩

I come across broken Tiffany shades at secondhand stores constantly!! Always for pennies and always beautiful just with some glass missing or a broken piece.

It always hurts my heart to leave them behind, but now I will be grabbing every single one I find 🥲

Just imagine a garden filled with planters like these 😍

In honor of hitting 100K and this awesome @siouxfa In honor of hitting 100K and this awesome @siouxfallsstage issue being published on the same day, I thought I’d take the time to tell you guys more about me!

You all know my name is Rachel and I live in a charming 100 year old little cottage in South Dakota. What you probably don’t know, though, is how we got here or what I’m doing when not at home! Here’s some things to know about me in no particular order 😍

1. I grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis! I love Minnesota with all my heart and am thankful to visit often as most of my immediate family still lives there ☺️

2. I studied musical theatre and dance at the University of South Dakota and have since leaned into a new role as choreographer in the Sioux Falls theatre scene! It has brought me so much joy to stay connected to this part of myself since becoming a mom. Sioux Falls theatre is the best 🫶🏻

3. I’ve lived in multiple states including New York and South Carolina, but have happily settled in South Dakota and I love this state with my whole heart 🦬

4. I started posting consistently last November and never could have guessed what an awesome community would have come from it! I’ve always been passionate about making my home a cozy and inviting space but never thought so many people would relate to my love for shopping small and secondhand 🥹

5. I work part time as a nanny/house manager for a wonderful family. It’s been the biggest blessing of my life to have a job that allows me to have Archer by my side everyday in his formative years. ❤️

I can’t express how grateful I am to have so many of you following along and giving me a place to be creative. Posting on this app has brought me so much happiness and has truly allowed me to find myself again after becoming a mom.

If you want to learn more about Sioux Falls theatre and meet the other amazing artists featured in this issue, make sure to check out the latest issue of @siouxfallsstage ! It’s a huge honor to be included among so many talented artists.

Something has been BUGGINNNGG me about this room f Something has been BUGGINNNGG me about this room for ages 😩

I absolutely adore the paneling in this room, and I think in my efforts to feature the beautiful wood, I tried to go minimal with the decor.

But what I actually needed was something with enough contrast to make the wood really pop!

I’m a sucker for a jute rug and initially thought that’s what I would put in this space. I fell DEEPLY in love with this unique shag from @revival , though, and I’m SO GLAD I decided to trust my gut. It’s the Rojda Shag Rug in 5x8! 😍

It’s the perfect amount of color and texture so the wood paneling gets to truly SHINE.

What do you think? Did I make the right call?? 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️
