You know those homes where you walk through the doors and just feel an overwhelming sense of well…homeness? A lot of this can be attributed to the way a place smells or the people that occupy it, but I guarantee a large part of your positive experience can be attributed to good lighting.

The difference that warm lighting makes in a home is mind-boggling. Without competition, the easiest way to transform your space from a cold cookie-cutter room to a comfortable and inviting oasis is to incorporate warm lighting fixtures.

If you’re looking to add a rustic touch to your home but don’t want to splurge on new furniture, these DIY rustic lighting ideas might be just the solution you’ve been looking for.

All of these ideas are totally budget friendly and simple enough for any novice DIY-er to tackle.

Upgrading the different lighting sources throughout my home have always been some of my favorite projects. You’ll understand why when you put these ideas to the test in your own house.

These projects range in time commitment and tool commitment from zero hours and tools to many hours and tools. So pick which one best suits your skill level and get to homemaking!

The absolute easiest way to incorporate a rustic feel into your home lighting without making any drastic changes is to switch out your light bulbs.

Look for vintage style light bulbs or Edison style light bulbs with amber tinted glass.

It’s a small change that will make a huge difference in the way your room feels. This DIY project can be done in one night and you’ll love the results!

2. Mason Jars

If you’re like me, you have too many mason jars sitting around your home with no idea how to use them.

Put a few different sizes of jars to use by creating a gorgeous lighting centerpiece like the one above.

This project can be completed by even the most novice DIY-ers and guests will stunned by your new chandelier!

3. Rustic Chandelier From a Colander

I love any kind of lighting source that will cast gorgeous patterned shadows on the wall.

It’s a two for one design hack because not only is the light itself a focal point, but you’re getting free wallpaper on your wall!

This colander turned chandelier is the ultimate rustic farmhouse centerpiece that will illuminate and decorate your walls.

4. Chicken Wire

If you’re looking for easy and affordable DIY rustic lighting ideas, this chicken wire pendant light is what you’ll want.

I absolutely love how simple it is and the open weave of the chicken wire keeps so much light and airiness in the room.

A lot of us probably have rolls of spare chicken wire in our garages with no idea what to do with it, but this is probably the most lovely project made from chicken wire I’ve seen!

5. Pendant Lamp

shop open weave baskets

These basket pendant lamps when bought new can easily sell for $100 and up, but they can be made for under $50 no problem!

The plus side of making your own basket weave pendant lamp is you can shop around for different baskets with different weaves so you can customize the shape, size, and pattern it casts on your wall.

Plug in pendant lights are convenient DIY rustic lighting ideas because they can be plugged in at any outlet source and placed anywhere throughout your home that needs extra light.

6. Whiskey Bottles

Whiskey and liquor bottles are often beautifully designed glassware that doesn’t have to be wasted once you drink the last drop.

You can make a stunning light fixture by placing plug in string light bulb lights within the bottles and hanging them in different creative ways.

I love this pulley system as a hanger, but check out some of the ideas below for other ways you could hang your whiskey bottle lights.

Table lamps are great DIY rustic lighting ideas because they can transform a corner of your home with very little work.

Take this tin can lamp for example. Thrift any old lamp so you don’t have to do any wiring, and place the lamp base in a rustic container for an incredibly fast DIY project.

Check out your local antique stores and flea markets to find the best rustic containers for this project.

8. String Lights in Antiques

While you’re out shopping for containers to create DIY rustic lighting ideas for your table lamps, keep an eye out for other treasures.

Pretty much any funky rustic antique can become a beautiful lighting piece by adding string lights to it.

The benefit of creating lighting pieces this way is they can be placed anywhere throughout your home and easily moved when inspiration strikes!

The best rustic decor is the kind that feels like you’re bringing the outside in.

How beautiful is this DIY paper lamp? And not only is it beautiful, it’s SO easy to make.

Vintage lamp shade cages like the one above are relatively easy to find at thrift stores. Look for old lampshades where you come remove the fabric to reveal a rustic wire skeleton.

You can use any paper to fill out the shade, but I especially love this idea of using book pages from your favorite books or poems.

If you truly want to make a statement in your home, this driftwood chandelier is 100% the way to do it.

I love large and dramatic chandeliers because rooms easily and often become bottom heavy with no furniture or decor extending up to the ceiling.

Creating DIY rustic lighting ideas that are large and in charge will draw the eye upward in your home and balance out the decor you’ve worked so hard to curate.

I never would have thought to secure two planter baskets together to create a wire globe, but I’m sure glad someone else thought of it.

This simple and elegant chandelier design is so easy to recreate and you won’t be able to take your eyes off of it!

Tthe designer above placed it next to some foliage and natural looking lines creating a really lovely geometric contrast.

Barn wood statement furniture is always stunning, but usually retails for astronomical prices.

Instead you can skip the crazy prices, source a wood beam yourself, and simply wrap it with pendant bulb lights to make a modern rustic lighting piece.

Check Facebook marketplace or ask around at your local farmer’s market and I guarantee someone has an old barn wood beam lying around somewhere that they’re eager to pass off.

Okay I had a really really hard time keeping this Okay I had a really really hard time keeping this video under 3 minutes so some things I want to add in the caption 🤣🤣:

-One thing I have noticed is a decline in community correcting. If I’m not immediately by my child in a public place and they’re misbehaving, I think the adults around him should be able to tell him to knock it off. Lol we have to be okay with others helping us in their correction.

-I also think a lot of public places have become less conducive to bringing kids. We grew up with play places and corners with books and toys in most establishments, but I rarely see that anymore placing full responsibility on parents to bring things to entertain their kids which can be tough.

-Lastly my hope for this video is to encourage people to have more grace for children and moms (after all, shouldn’t we have the MOST grace for those who have been alive the shortest?) and that mothers will feel more empowered to bring their kids in public.

But maybe I’m wrong and the quality in parenting is rapidly declining? It hasn’t been my lived experience but what has your experience been?
