Of all winter holidays, New Years is definitely the least celebrated.
It’s such a shame because if there’s anything that deserves to be celebrated, it’s making it through another year with the people you love!
But after Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, we’re usually a little spent.
It can be tough to rally the troops to celebrate yet another holiday, but I think some commemoration is due at the time of the New Year!
That’s why a simple craft can be the perfect way to celebrate.
It doesn’t break the bank, it gets your toddler’s creative juices flowing, and it allows you to spend time with them reflecting on the past year and what you want for the upcoming one.
My son will turn two this winter and I’m determined to be a household filled with traditions that he can fondly look back on for years to come!
These New Years Crafts for toddlers will make the perfect start to many years of artistic traditions to come.
Check them out and let me know which ones you and your kiddo liked best!

My favorite kind of New Years crafts to do with kids are the kind that you can keep and look back on for years to come.
That’s why handprint crafts are always such a hit for moms.
If you do some kind of handprint craft with your kid every year at the start of the year, you can watch how their hands and handwriting have grown and matured over the years!
2. Confetti Dot Explosions
This hole punch confetti craft is the perfect craft for parents who have a lot of colorful scrap paper they need to use before the New Year!
If your toddler is big enough, they can help you make the confetti. If they’re still quite small, let them sprinkle the confetti over the glue.
There are few things toddlers love more than small colorful objects.
3. Resolution Cone

It’s not the easiest thing in the world to engage in a reflective conversation with a toddler, but this craft might help them!
Create some kind of cone or open shape, then cut colorful strips from packs of post-it notes to use inside.
Ask your toddler what kind of things they want to try or accomplish in the New Year, write them down, and have them stick their resolutions onto the cone. This can be hung in their room or on the fridge as a reminder!
4. New Years Eve Sensory Ball

My toddler loves any kind of sensory craft where he can run his hands through strange textures or messy things.
That’s why I know he and other toddlers would absolutely love making this DIY sensory New Years Eve ball!
All you need for this craft is a clear ball that can be opened to put things inside. Then get creative as you wish with the different materials to put inside.
Any kind of glitter, sprinkles, or shiny things are sure to be a hit!

If you’re looking for an easy craft that won’t require much shopping on your end, these city scape pipe cleaner fireworks are perfect.
Let your toddler practice their cutting skills with some child safe scissors to create the building.
Then encourage them to twist different pipe cleaners and ribbons into all kinds of crazy shapes to make the fireworks!
6. Paper Plate Noise Makers

When I saw this craft, it pulled some low-lying memories deep out of my subconscious that I hadn’t thought about in years.
I used to absolutely love making these paper plate noise makers as a kid, but I hadn’t thought about them in ages!
To create these noisemakers, put rice or beans on a paper plate, then glue another plate face down on top of that one along the edges.
Paint the outside of the plates once the glue has dried and add assorted ribbons or other decorations to your little one’s heart’s desire. They’ll love making noise for the whole house to hear!
7. Toilet Paper Roll Fireworks

This craft is perfect for younger toddlers in that 1-2 stage of life! It takes very little skill or precision and is just the kind of messy they love.
Cut up the end of a toilet paper roll in tiny slivers leaving the other end of the roll intact so they can easily grip it.
Then mix up different paint colors on a plate and let them dunk the splayed end of the roll in the paint before transferring to a clean piece of paper. And just like that, fireworks!
8. DIY Disco Ball
Most of us are probably not keeping our toddlers up until midnight just to watch the ball drop on television, but that doesn’t mean they can’t join in on the tradition in their own way.
Let your little one make their own New Years Eve ball by cutting up pieces of aluminum foil in all different shapes and sizes.
Have them glue each piece onto a paper plate to create a shiny shimmery disco ball of their own.
9. New Years Themed Sensory Bin

Sensory bins are my favorite and this New Years Eve themed one is next level adorable.
You can dye the rice any color you’d like, then fill with other objects like mini disco balls, clocks, and numbers to fill out your bin.
This is a great way to also practice counting down numbers if your toddler is old enough to count!
10. Resolution Party Hats

Back with another craft to let your toddler get involved with the resolution making this New Year!
This would be fun to do as seen above, with cut out party hats, or make fully functional party hats that they can wear throughout the day as well.
Have them come up with one exciting thing they will do in the New Year, and help them write it on their new party hat!
11. The Past Into the Future

This is one of my favorite New Years Crafts for toddlers because it can help them to understand the concept of one year passing and going into the next.
Draw large bubble numbers of the current year, then have them color those in. Then you can either have them cute those numbers into pieces (or do it yourself if they are too small.
Then use the pieces from those numbers as confetti to glue on top of the numbers of the upcoming year!
12. Favorites From the Year

A lot of New Years crafts are focused on the upcoming year and the resolutions for it, but I also love the crafts that help your little one to reflect on the past year!
Ask your toddler about some of their favorite things from the year and write their answers down on stars.
Let them glue the stars on a new page so they can remember all of their favorite things from the past year! Plus, these will be a blast for mom to read as they get older.
13. Paper Crowns
Credit: @teachingwithoutfrills
What toddler doesn’t love a fun hat or crown that they can wear around the house or to the grocery store?
Make the holiday feel a little more special for them by creating a paper crown in the morning for them to wear throughout the day.
This could be a tradition that your child will come to look forward to every New Years Day!
14. Glitter Handprints
Another great way to get handprints involved is this glitter and glue New Years craft.
Draw out the numbers for the upcoming year and have your child’s hand be the zero. Let them practice their fine motor skills by tracing the outlines in glue.
Then they can sprinkle away with glitter until all the glue lines are covered and they have a beautiful glittery piece of artwork to commemorate the year!
15. Crazy Crowns

In classic Romanticizing Rachel fashion, I love to leave my favorite idea for last on the list.
I think these crazy crowns are so cute and I love how customizable they are for everyone in the family.
All you need for this project is a cheap pack of headbands and assorted colors of pipe cleaners to wrap around them!
Hello!
Good cheer to all on this beautiful day!!!!!
Good luck 🙂
