20 Easy Children’s DIY Valentines for Classmates

Let’s look at twenty adorable ideas to make DIY Valentines for classmates so your child is ready to spread the love at school this Valentine’s Day!

Published: 11/16/24

Valentine’s Day has always been one of my absolute favorite holidays and I can attribute this to celebrating the holiday at school.

We always did the homemade Valentine’s card boxes that everyone would bring in along with individual Valentine’s.

Then we would place our cards in everyone’s boxes and it was always so fun to go through your cards at the end of the day!

Let’s be honest, I really just loved the candy and the chance to make a really cool card box, but it definitely stuck with me.

These are the kind of childhood memories I can’t wait to share with my son as he gets older!

I fully intend to force my involvement in the Vday classroom shenanigans again by creating DIY Valentines with him to place in everyone’s card boxes!

That is, if schools still do that?

Even if they don’t, I’m a holiday super fan and think those days should always feel extra special for children especially!

If you’re in the same boat and want to do something a little more special and memory making then picking up a box of paw patrol Valentine’s for your kid to hand out, then this list is for you.

These are simple, easy, and budget friendly DIY ideas that you’ll love creating with your child!

All you need for these adorable Valentine’s is some craft paper in all kinds of fun colors and patterns!

Cut the paper into oversized hearts then fold accordion style to make them extra fun.

I love how this creator has used cardboard for the labels as an easy and affordable way to personalize these cute cards!

2. Heart Puppy Faces

If you have young children who you don’t quite want working with scissors yet, then these pasted puppies could be perfect!

The night before assembling, cut out multiple paper hearts in different colors but all in the same size.

Once they’re already cut out, then all your little one has to do is assemble! Make one as an example for your child to follow then let their creativity run free.

3. Folded Envelope

Credit: @suzi_gerace_designer

This simple folded envelope Valentine is the perfect craft to do with littles!

It’s a simple tri-fold pattern on regular printer paper making this one of the easiest ideas on the list.

You probably have all the materials you would need at home waiting for you! That’s why I love this budget friendly yet cute option.

4. Cotton Ball Sheep

Get colorful and creative with these cotton ball wooly sheep to ask the question “Wooly be my Valentine?”

A hot glue gun, a few print out images of sheep, and a large bag of colorful cotton balls is all that’s needed for this cute craft.

Your kids will love assembling these colorful pieces of art and will be so excited to hand them out at school to all their friends!

5. Yarn Bows

Credit: @sabscraftsca

The perfect neutral Valentines cars that can be made in bulk and personalized for all their classmates!

What I like most about these simple an easy to make cards is they aren’t overtly lovey or cutesy so your child won’t feel weird sharing them with the whole class.

A little yarn and some colorful contact paper can go a long way! Layer different colors and textures of yarn to make the cutest bows.

6. Apple Sauce Cutouts

Is everyone else’s kid as obsessed with these applesauce pouches as mine is?

Your child will be the most popular kid in class handing these out on Valentine’s Day!

Though you can definitely design and print out your own pictures, it would also be fun to draw animals with your kiddo and have them hand write the cute saying at the bottom as well.

7. Taco Valentines

Credit: @craftstudionyc

For all the little class clowns out there who are asking for funny Valentine’s that don’t look like everyone else’s, I introduce the taco card!

Create your own taco shells from construction paper then fill with green tissue paper and foam shapes to create the lettuce and other toppings.

Bonus points if you can fit in a pun using the word taco!

8. DIY Stamp

Worried about how many students are in your child’s class and feeling overwhelmed with the sheer amount of cards you’ll have to make?

I have the perfect creative and cute solution for you.

Create you own unique stamp to pump out large amounts of cards with minimal time and effort!

9. Wax Watercolor Hearts

Credit: @coastalcountrymama

This fun little trick always used to blow my mind when I was a little kid. Now we have to pass the magic trick on to our kids.

Use a white crayon or plain wax crayon to draw “invisible” hearts on card sized pieces of paper.

Paint the entire sheet with watercolor paints and watch the invisible hearts appear as the paint stays clear of the wax!

10. Tic Tac Toe Kisses

Who doesn’t love tic tac toe? And even better, who doesn’t love Hershey’s chocolate kisses?

Let your child give the gift of both with these DIY game cards!

You can either glue the kisses to the sheet, or attach the game card to a little drawstring bag of chocolates so the students can play the game before snacking!

11. Lollipop Cherries

Credit: @sewcanshe

I love these unique lollipop cherry valentine’s because of how they vary from the regular cards that most of your child’s classmates will be handing out!

Some green tape and red suckers are all you need for this adorable craft and it’s sure to be a hit among other children.

If you need space to write names or little notes, just use green craft paper to create some leaves!

12. Bee Mine Hearts

I love the classic look of these bee mine inspired Valentine cards!

The best thing about cards like these is how few materials you need to make something unique and memorable.

Since the hearts needed are all the same size, you can cut multiple colors and sheets of paper at once using a stencil to be time efficient as well.

13. Fabric Scrap Hearts

Credit: @leftfootlearning

For the moms who sew or have extra fabric from crafts laying around, this is the perfect way to use up those scraps!

Write “I love you to pieces” around a heart glued together using pieces of fabric.

It’s cute, it’s easy, it’s sustainable, and it will reduce some of the clutter in your home!

14. Dinosaur Figures

This is another great idea for kids needing to make Valentine’s cards for everyone in their class.

Obviously they’re not going to want them all to sound romantic, so something neutral like dino-mite is a great way to go!

Plus, the dinosaur figurines are pretty cute too.

15. Hand Print Puns

Credit: @aleenesdiy

Hand print crafts are a go to in our household because they’re incredible easy, fun, and for a Vday card there are endless pun opportunities!

Kids love getting their hands messy with washable paints so let them go crazy making prints that can be cut out for each card.

The thing I love as a parent about handprint crafts is you get a record of how sweet and little their hands were that you can look back on years from now!

16. Doily Envelopes

These doily heart envelopes might just be my favorite idea on this list.

I would definitely save this idea for older kiddos either in the upper Elementary years or middle school years as they’re quite delicate.

But they’re very simple for how beautiful they are and I would’ve been all about this in sixth grade!

17. Love Bug

Credit: @kidsactivitiesblog

These sweet little heart love bugs are the perfect Valentine’s Day craft if you’re running out of time and don’t want to spend too much on materials!

A little paper for the cards and some paper cut out hearts are all you need to make these adorable cards.

They’re neutral and sweet so your child can write whatever notes they want on the inside to make all their friends feel special.

18. Strawberry Hearts

diy valentines for classmates

If you couldn’t tell from many of the previous ideas, I love a good pun!

These strawberry themed cutout hearts are a great opportunity to sneak in a cheeky pun with your little ones.

Plus, who doesn’t love an excuse to use googly eyes? If you ask me, we don’t get to use them nearly enough!

19. Toilet Paper Roll Hearts

Credit: @creativeandbusysquirrels

Create your own easy to use heart stamps with something you definitely have sitting around the house: toilet paper rolls!

Just fold in the middle on one side to create a heart shape, then dunk in different colors of paint to transfer to your cards.

If you have them laying around, a few stickers or gems can make these easy heart flowers even more fun.

20. Fabric Scrap Snails

diy valentines for classmates

Credit: @_laura_prietto

The perfect quaint and cottage style Valentine for those creative kiddos in your life.

A scrap of fabric can be used in so many different ways, but I’m especially partial to this sweet snail.

Obviously if these are being made for your child’s classmates, you can adjust the saying so it doesn’t say I love you. Try something like “Snail mail for the coolest kid!”

Okay I had a really really hard time keeping this Okay I had a really really hard time keeping this video under 3 minutes so some things I want to add in the caption 🤣🤣:

-One thing I have noticed is a decline in community correcting. If I’m not immediately by my child in a public place and they’re misbehaving, I think the adults around him should be able to tell him to knock it off. Lol we have to be okay with others helping us in their correction.

-I also think a lot of public places have become less conducive to bringing kids. We grew up with play places and corners with books and toys in most establishments, but I rarely see that anymore placing full responsibility on parents to bring things to entertain their kids which can be tough.

-Lastly my hope for this video is to encourage people to have more grace for children and moms (after all, shouldn’t we have the MOST grace for those who have been alive the shortest?) and that mothers will feel more empowered to bring their kids in public.

But maybe I’m wrong and the quality in parenting is rapidly declining? It hasn’t been my lived experience but what has your experience been?
