I’m swearing off Amazon in 2025!
That’s right, you heard me.
After seeing what felt like hundreds of Amazon wishlists over the holidays and watching so many creators trying to get me to use their affiliate links, I just couldn’t take it anymore.
I’ve been blogging for over a year now and have used Amazon affiliate links in my blog up until this point.
But I only started dipping my toes in social media content creation around November of 2025 until the present and let me tell you, the Amazon marketing is out of control.
Both as a user and now as a creator, I totally understand how easy it is to make Amazon your primary place to shop.
It offers very budget-friendly options, it can be delivered pretty much anywhere in a matter of days, and it’s one of the first ways content creators can start to bring in income through affiliate links.
That last one is initially what sucked me in.
When I started getting serious about Instagram, I was seeing huge home influencers filling their stories everyday with Amazon affiliate links.
Or they had reels promoting Amazon products that were absolutely skyrocketing to millions of views.
It made me feel like the only way to find success in this nice is to take the same approach.

But that just isn’t me and I have a hunch I’m not alone.
I’ve always been passionate about shopping small and supporting local economies!
So even if it means I don’t make as much through affiliates or don’t see as much success in my content, that’s a price I’m willing to pay to stay true to my morals as a consumer.
All of this has led me to create a new series I’m calling “Buy This Not That” where I source the best small business alternatives to your Amazon wishlist.
Shopping small doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your budget or your convenience!
I’ll make it easy FOR you so that shopping small can be an enjoyable experience for all of us.
Part 2 is all about throw pillows!
I consistently see the same few Amazon throw pillow covers being linked by home influencers.
Don’t get me wrong, they are beautiful options, but if you’re looking for something unique or just don’t want to give your money to Amazon, these are the choices for you!

1. London & Ella

London and Ella is an Etsy store and family run small business that sells stunning throw pillow covers.
They have trendy block prints very similar to the ones you can find on Amazon as well as plaids and florals that will bring warmth to any home!

These are the Amazon throw pillow covers that I see shared most often by influencers and you can see how similar the London & Ella ones are!
The prices are incredibly affordable essentially matching Target prices with pillows starting around $30.
The selection is huge and there’s definitely something for everyone. If you’re looking for something very similar to what’s in your Amazon cart, this is the store for you!
2. The Hello Mello Store

Have you ever even seen cuter throw pillow covers in your life?
And the best part about all of the products from the Hello Mello store on Etsy is they are all made by hand from a mother who created this business to help support her family!
They look almost identical to the new Spring Studio Mcgee line that is available for purchase at Target.

These are the Target pillows and if I’m being totally honest, I prefer the Hello Mello ones!
The biggest difference between the two is that Target really doesn’t need your money but a mom looking to provide for her family by making pillow covers by hand definitely does.
This is why shopping small is so important and rewarding as a consumer.
3. Interior James

I was so excited to support another midwest content creator with his line of throw pillow covers!
Tanner is a home designer and influencer from Minnesota who created Interior James to connect with local designers and design enthusiasts.
He recently came out with a stunning line of throw pillow covers that check every box a home decor lover could possibly be looking for.
The designs are elegant and timeless and I personally can’t wait to get my hands on some.
Many of the designs are sold out as I write this, but I’ve seen him tease some new beautiful designs and patterns on his Instagram that will be released soon!
