One thing that has surprised me about motherhood so far is just how much time I have spent in my son’s nursery.

From sleepless nights, to long nursing sessions, and hours of floor play time, I have no doubt spent more time in the nursery than almost anywhere else in my home the past 11 months.

For this reason, I LOVE a themed nursery! Nurseries are so fun to decorate because you can truly have fun with it and embrace your inner child throughout the process.

We feel the need to make the other spaces in our home look elevated and mature, but the nursery is the place to incorporate bright colors, stunning murals, quirky accessories, and all of the fun home decor that we neglect in other rooms.

I know that before my son was born, I spent HOURS scrolling Pinterest and Instagram at night when I couldn’t sleep (thank you third trimester reflux) planning every detail of my son’s nursery.

Truly, I think the decor in your child’s room can influence the person they become. A mountain nursery theme will encourage a sense of adventure and love for the outdoors in your child that they may not otherwise have developed!

There are so many cute nursery themes (check out my bear bedroom decor ideas for woodland nurseries!) but I am rather partial to the mountain nursery theme for its coziness and natural beauty.

Here are the 15 best mountain nursery theme decor ideas to inspire your baby’s outdoorsy cabin nursery!

The changing table is often an under-utilized area of the nursery when it comes to decorating.

I get it, a lot of not cute things happen around the changing table, but parents and kids spend so much time at this table that it will be worth your time to make it a happy space.

Take advantage of the wall space above your changing table with adorable mountain nursery theme decor!

2. Cute Lamps

Table lamps are one of my favorite ways to bring life and playfulness to your decor.

There are so many different kinds of table lamps from themed lampshades to quirky light fixtures like this campfire light seen above.

Bring some fun to your child’s nursery through the lighting and I’ll bet your child loves it as much as you do!

3. Woodland Animals

When it comes to the smaller accents in your mountain nursery theme, try picking woodland creature accessories.

Every nursery needs extra storage for diapers, toys, little clothes, and the dozens of blankies and stuffed animals that will be gifted to you at the baby shower.

Instead of opting for boring storage choices, check out these adorable woodland creature storage bins and decorate the parts of your nursery that often don’t look cute!

4. Wall Decals

Wall decals and wallpaper are making a huge comeback in nurseries this year.

I absolutely love that people are straying away from neutral colors and instead opting for bright wallpapers and prints that bring fun and personality to the walls.

This stunning forest mountain wallpaper is a great choice, or you could opt for smaller wall decals that turn one empty wall into an accent wall.

5. DIY Nursery Mountain Mural

If you have an artistic streak, instead of wall decals or wallpaper, you could just paint a mural on the walls of your mountain nursery theme!

The benefit of painting a mural is you can customize the shapes and colors to what best suits your walls, and it is easy to paint over in the instance that you’re renting or considering a move in the near future.

You could add animal and plant details like the one above, or keep it very simple with triangular shapes that resemble mountains in a more abstract way.

6. Rustic Rocking Chair

Don’t get me wrong, the modern armchair-esque rocking chairs that are trending on the nursery market are great for comfort, but nothing can replace the look of a classic rustic rocking chair.

I love wooden rocking chairs and have spent so much time in the one above with my son nursing, reading books, and rocking to sleep.

Having more rustic and wooden accents throughout your mountain nursery theme will add to mountain cabin feeling that you’re looking for.

7. Cozy Place for Reading

If you have extra space in your nursery that you’re unsure how to fill, consider adding a themed reading nook!

How cute is this kid’s camping tent in the photo above? I know I would’ve absolutely loved having something like this in my room as kid.

Bring all the fun of camping right in your child’s nursery with a mountain themed reading nook.

8. Canvas Prints

An easy way to customize and decorate your nursery space is with canvas prints. You can either purchase ones you like, or buy your own empty canvas to paint!

Play with different sizes and placement to create a visually exciting space in your child’s room that will make you feel at home every time you see it.

You can paint woodland creatures like the picture above, or paint beautiful mountain landscapes that encourage a sense of adventure in your little one.

9. Rain Cloud Light Fixture

How STUNNING is this storm cloud chandelier for a mountain nursery theme?

Often when we are decorating a space in our home, we focus on everything eye level and down with furniture and rugs.

Bring the eye up with a beautiful themed light fixture. Trust me, your baby will LOVE staring at the beautiful lights!

10. Wood Accents

Source: Project Nursery

Make your child’s nursery feel like a rustic mountain cabin by adding in wood accents in every corner of the room.

DIY a stick curtain rod like the one seen above, or shop for wood wall decor on Etsy (that’s where you’ll find the BEST wall decor).

When shopping for wood accents, look for items with raw edges and plenty of character to really utilize the cabin charm.

11. Crib Sheet and Bedding

There are so many cute crib bedding options out there and that includes mountain themed decor!

Make your baby’s crib the place they look forward to getting into every night by making the space as cozy as possible (always following safe sleep guidelines at night of course).

One of my friends recently made a mountain embroidered baby quilt for her daughter and that was the most BEAUTIFUL nursery decor I had ever seen.

12. Shelf Decor

Everyone knows that hanging shelves are a great way to add decor and personality to a room, but sometimes curating those shelves is easier said than done.

Stuff your shelves with woodland Jelly Cats, summer camp banners, and wooden mountain decor.

Don’t be afraid of color! The more color, the more stimulating to your little one and the ultimate goal should be to make the nursery an inviting and welcome space for your child.

13. Faux Hide Area Rug

Credit: @kayleighmackenzu

Your little one is going to spend a LOT of time crawling, rolling, and running around the floor of their nursery.

Make the floor a fun and welcoming space for their play time by choosing soft area rugs that will go easy on their little limbs when crawling and kneeling.

For a mountain theme, look for faux animal hide or fur rugs or large area rugs with rustic prints to resemble a mountain cabin!

14. Woodland Nursery Theme Mobile

Credit: @lauramarciante

Something that surprised me when I was nursery shopping for my son was the sheer amount of BEAUTIFUL mobile options!

Mobiles have quickly become one of the best ways to decorate a nursery because they come in so many cute color, shape, and size options.

DIY your own by sewing little mountain and cloud shapes as seen above, or enjoy shopping through the multiple options on Amazon or Etsy.

15. Throw Pillows and Faux Furs

One of the most affordable but incredibly effective ways to decorate any room in your house is through throw pillows and fabric textiles.

Etsy has a lot of great options for fun pillows that are shaped like mountains, trees, acorns, and any kind of woodland shape you could think of.

Make your mountain nursery theme room extra cozy by incorporating faux fur pelts draped over rocking chairs or cribs.
