You’ve heard of rustic home decor, farmhouse home decor, English cottage, French country, and the probably one hundred other variations of this design style.

Though all slightly different, all of these decor trends are trying to achieve a worn-in and vintage country look.

Design trends are resisting modern shapes and bland color palettes, and returning to a decor style that feels homey, a little raw, and very cozy.

A country themed bedroom is a room that embraces the imperfect. There aren’t any matching bedroom sets and bedding is a mix of patterns and textures.

The whole point of this design style is to look as if your house exists on a farm in the country somewhere with pieces of furniture that have been passed down through generations being scuffed and patched along the way.

It’s classic, it’s airy, it’s a little messy, and whole lot of perfect.

If this sounds like how you want your bedroom to feel, keep scrolling for my 23 favorite country themed bedroom ideas that you can copy to bring some country charm to your very own room!

1. Cafe Curtains

Credit: @theshuttered_farmhouse

One of the easiest ways to add some country charm to your bedroom is by switching out your floor to ceiling curtains with cafe curtains!

What I love most about cafe curtains is how much light is allowed into the room, while still maintaining your privacy.

Keep it simple with white linen or cotton like the room above, or go for a charming pattern like gingham or stripes.

2. Gathered Fabric Cabinet Doors

Whether it’s for a large cabinet or wardrobe, or for your closet doors, no one can deny the charm of these gathered fabric windows.

It can be difficult to find ways to add some flare and decor to doors without damaging them, but this is the perfect solution.

Match the fabrics to other textiles in your room for the perfect coordinated look!

3. Vintage Window Mirror

Credit: @cindy.countyroad407

The key to a country themed bedroom is to use vintage items that look like they came from a nearby barn!

Only kind of joking, but how beautiful is this antique window turned mirror as above the bed decor?

This would make a great DIY project if you want to customize the size and shape of your window frame, or you can purchase authentic looking pieces on Amazon.

4. Wall Cutout Headboard

country themed bedroom

Now obviously not everyone will be able to recreate this look, but for those who can, it is so absolutely stunning.

If your bedroom has a wall that can bear a cutout shape like this oversize cathedral arch, it’s the perfect way to add some country charm to your room.

Wallpaper the inside of the cutout for a beautiful and feminine effect that you’ll obsess over every night.

5. Four Poster Bed

Credit: @number131

Growing up as a little girl, I always dreamed of having a grand four poster bed with a fabric canopy.

Somewhere along the way to adulthood, they fell out of style a bit, but it’s time for a come back if you ask me.

These bed frames feel so quaint and nostalgic bringing the perfect amount of farmhouse style to your bedroom.

6. Floral Patterned Bedding

country themed bedroom

Credit: @bobbincottage

Would it even be a farmhouse country themed bedroom without floral bedding?

This staple of country decor is so classic for a reason. It’s absolutely beautiful without being too bold or overwhelming!

Obviously there are thousands of different styles of floral patterns so you can truly tailor your bedding to your own color and design preferences.

7. Vintage Bedside Vanity

Credit: @byemmadiaz

There’s something so classic and elegant about a bedside vanity, especially when it’s comprised of vintage pieces.

I firmly believe that it’s much more beautiful to pair unique pieces together for a vanity, desk, or table than to buy a matching set.

I love the way the homeowner in the photo above has created this vanity by placing a large mirror on top of an old letter desk.

8. Decorative Fireplace Mantel

Not all of us are blessed enough to own homes or apartments with gorgeous custom fireplaces.

That doesn’t mean we have to give up on our dreams of having one though!

Recreate the feel and look of a fireplace by decorating with an ornate mantelpiece. The one I have in my home has an electric fireplace insert so if I don’t think too hard about it, it’s like I have my own fireplace.

9. Fabric Canopy

Credit: @mvgraham

Ideas like this one are my favorite kind of bedroom decor ideas because it’s unique, custom, and can easily be done on your own in one weekend.

Adding a floor to ceiling canopy as the “headboard’ above your bed unmistakably oozes country charm.

It looks like the homeowner in the photo above may have crafted their canopy from a sheet set in order to match the fabric to their bedding!

10. Foot of the Bed Chest

country themed bedroom

Credit: @theworldofinteriors

A lot of times we focus on how to decorate the head of a bed, whether it’s with a headboard or canopy.

We less often think about how to decorate the foot of the bed, but it can be a very effective interior design trick!

Make you country themed bedroom look perfectly put together with a vintage trunk or chest at the foot of the bed. It can store extra bedding as well as provide additional seating.

11. Fringe Lamp Shades

Credit: @no.7_is_home

I highly doubt that many of you are on custom lampshade TikTok like I am, but I can’t recommend it enough.

There’s truly no reason to have boring white lampshades when you can have stunning draped shades with lovely fringe.

Lamp shades like these have the power to transform your space with their beauty and ability to alter the color of your ambient lighting.

12. Assorted Vintage Prints

You have the beautiful bed frame, the frilly bedding, the floral wallpaper, and even the wooden beams, but you’re unsure of how to decorate from here?

Consider adding vintage artwork prints throughout your space in different sizes and picture frames.

This design hack will add a distinct primitive feel to your country themed bedroom that can’t be replicated with modern accessories!

13. Dainty Bedside Sconces

Credit: @jill_house_home

Lighting sconces have been one of the fastest growing design trends I’ve seen in recent years and I’m beyond happy they’re making a come back.

I could not be less of a fan of overhead lighting. It’s astounding the difference alternative lighting can make to adding warmth to a home.

Frame your bed with matching delicate sconces for some country flavor. The great news is, you can find some really stunning wireless sconces on Amazon that are battery powered for easy installation!

14. Stone Accent Walls

country themed bedroom

Credit: @m.elle.design

I’ve said it on this blog probably one hundred times and I’ll keep preaching it to all who will listen.

Interior stone veneer can look incredibly beautiful and it’s a budget friendly, DIY option to creating a stone wall in your home!

We all dream of the beautiful towering castle-like stone walls seen in the photo above, but it’s not exactly a project you can take on in one weekend. A stone accent wall with veneer on the other hand, is very achievable!

15. Fabric Head Board

Credit: @boz_gagovski

I’m a firm believer that when it comes to bedroom decor, the only part of the room you really have to nail is the bed.

Of course it’s fun to add vintage vanities and custom side tables, but the bedroom has a purpose, and the bed fills that purpose.

It’s easily one of the largest furniture pieces in your home, and naturally the focal point of every bedroom. That’s why investing in a beautiful headboard will be worth your money in transforming your room!

16. Rustic Bedside Table

country themed bedroom

Credit: @by_anitarussell

Has anyone else looked at the price of side tables recently? When we moved into our home and I began the furnishing process, I could not believe how expensive a pair of tiny bedside tables were.

That’s why they’re the perfect furniture items to thrift or shop vintage!

I’m not going to pay full price for a boring modern side table, when I can thrift a stunning rustic wooden piece like that photo above for a fraction of the cost.

17. Custom Wall Moulding

Credit: @parkplacegower

Wall moulding is another design trend I’ve seen on the rise and it’s apparent why!

Moulding is gorgeous, timeless, and the perfect way to elevate an otherwise plain and boring wall in your home.

Create a subtle accent wall by adding square moulding and color washing to create this classic country look.

18. Iron Bed Frame

country themed bedroom

Credit: @myenglishcountrycottage

As classic as classic can be, the white iron simple bed frame enters the chat.

When I picture a country themed bedroom, a bed like the one in the photo above is exactly what comes to mind.

I think iron bed frames are simultaneously elegant and youthful. Additionally, they look great with any style of bedding!

19. Hanging Greenery

Credit: @myenglishcountrycottage

Everyone loves a little greenery in their homes, but not everyone has enough of a green thumb to keep said greenery alive!

This is why I recommend artificial foliage to everyone who will listen.

If you shop right, it won’t look tacky, cheap, or fake in the slightest. The key to faux foliage in your home is to layer all different types of colors and shapes of vines for an authentic look.

20. Floral Wallpaper

country themed bedroom

Credit: @uniquehomestays

Just in case I hadn’t sold you on the floral bedding, there might be a better way.

Wallpaper is coming back into homes with a vengeance this year and it’s the perfect way to incorporate a little country personality into your space.

Go for an accent wall if you’re not entirely sold on the idea of wallpaper yet. I guarantee in a year you’ll be considering adding it to every wall of your home!

21. Gingham Accents

Credit: @sincerelymariedesigns

If there are no fans of gingham in this world, consider me dead. If there’s only one gingham fan in this world, it’s me.

Gingham is the perfect country textile! It’s sweet and charming, but still elevated and curated.

Incorporating this pattern into your bedding, curtains, or any other fabric in your country themed bedroom, will instantly brighten the space

22. Bead Board Walls

country themed bedroom

Credit: @sincerelymariedesigns

Bead board is the next project I’m taking on in our home! We will be adding it to the walls and ceilings of my son’s bedroom to add a little country flare.

In general, when it comes to bedroom design, the devil is all in the details.

The different between a boring bedroom with no personality and a well curated bedroom that takes your breath away can be something as simple as adding some visual interest and texture to your wall space.

23. Layered Natural Textures

Credit: @mothermeg

Similar to what I was saying in the previous country themed bedroom idea, the true trick to a beautiful bedroom comes in the layering.

You’re not going to be able to buy one set of pillows and have the bedroom of your dreams.

You’ll have to spend time finding unique items that compliment each other, as well as layering different textures and materials. Just take a look at this bedding.

They have a linen fitted sheet, a muslin top sheet, a neutral linen duvet, topped with a fluffy cotton duvet and embroidered pillows! Beautiful!

Amazon links have become so common that we don’t Amazon links have become so common that we don’t even think twice about using them, but should we?

I used to shop from Amazon WEEKLY. Picking up little things here and there to follow trends or utilizing the ease of fast delivery to my door.

But I never felt great about it knowing that there were small businesses out there that needed my money more. I just never knew where to find them.

That’s why I wanted to create this platform! To make shopping small and secondhand feel easy and sexy again.

If you’re not convinced yet, here are my top 3 reasons to stop shopping Amazon:
1. Sustainability- In 2019, Amazon’s carbon emissions (ONE company) surpassed that of the entire country of Norway. And it’s only grown since (like by A LOT).
2. Unfair Pay for Workers- Though they’re a multi-billion dollar corporation, most employees aren’t making enough to support their families.
3. THERE ARE NO ETHICAL BILLIONAIRES- I don’t want Jeff Bezos getting a penny from me 🥰

I also feel strongly that delivery services are the greatest contributor to the loneliness epidemic we’re experiencing today. We belong in public spaces, interacting with other humans at thrift stores and brick and mortar shops.

If any of this resonates with you, give @romanticizingrach a follow so together we can find the best small business alternatives and hold each other accountable to shopping secondhand 🫶🏻

Have to give my parents credit for this as well be Have to give my parents credit for this as well because even though I know now we were struggling, they never made it our problem as children.

Having less forced us to be outside more, be home more, spend more time together, and get through the hard times as a unit. It taught me to sacrifice and to be resilient, and I want my child to learn those same lessons in life.

Now obviously I’m not talking about the kind of poverty that leaves children hungry and uncared for, but most families live in the gray area between poverty and a comfortable middle class.

Don’t let anyone make you feel like you’re a bad parent if you’re in that gray area and living paycheck to paycheck. If your kids needs are met and you are loving them as hard as you can, then you’re doing more than enough to set them up for a life of happiness.

Do you agree with this take or am I totally off base???
