10 Simple and Affordable Valentines Handprint Crafts for Toddlers

Let’s take a look at ten adorable Valentines handprint crafts for toddlers that will be fun for littles and make the perfect keepsakes for mom and dad!

Published: 12/21/24

I strive to be the type of mom that makes every holiday feel really special and fun for my kids.

I want them to always look back on their childhood memories around the holidays as times of fun filled with plenty of family traditions!

A lot of people have traditions around Thanksgiving and Christmas, but why not make every holiday feel more special?

One of the ways I’ve elevated these days in my home for my toddler is to have some kind of themed craft planned.

I’m not a themed craft mom any other day of the year, but that just adds to making the holidays feel unique.

Your children will not only love the time spent together getting creative, but they will also love either displaying their new art or gifting it as a Valentine’s Day gift to a family member or friend.

Most everyone has some kind of craft paper or paint hanging around in their house somewhere, but even if you don’t, these are very affordable materials for you to buy.

There’s enough money to be spent around holidays, don’t make these little craft traditions another thing that you have to drop a lot of money on.

These simple, adorable, and sweet Valentines handprint crafts for toddlers are an inexpensive way to celebrate with your little one while cultivating their creativity!

1. Bouquet of Handprints

Starting off strong with a fun, colorful, and easy way to get crafty around Valentine’s Day- the handprint flower bouquet!

This is a great idea for families with multiple littles because each child can place their different sized handprints on the page to create a unique family bouqet.

This would make the perfect gift to surprise mom with on Valentine’s Day because what mom wouldn’t want this precious handmade memory?

2. Love Tree Trunk

Or if there is only one child in the family, this “love tree” is a great alternative because it only requires one handprint!

Either use brown paint on their hand or trace the print onto construction paper than cutout to place on the page.

You can get creative with the leaves at this point! If your child is older, these heart cutouts are a cute option. If you have a younger toddler, try placing glue on the page and letting them stick bits of tissue paper onto the glue!

3. Handprint Animals

Have your toddler make cute woodland animals out of their paint handprints that are perfect for all kinds of fun puns!

This is an easy way to make a large amount of Valentine’s cards if you’re trying to make multiple for a class of other students or daycare providers/teachers.

If you choose to go with bears, then you can replace the word “very” with “beary” in any sentence about loving someone “beary” much.

4. Sign Language Hands

I absolutely love this fun and unique idea to use cut out handprints to tell someone you love them.

Get your toddler involved in the craft making by having them trace their own hands on different colored sheets of paper.

Depending on your child’s age, either have them use age-appropriate scissors or cut out the handprints for them. Then simply fold down the middle two fingers to create the American Sign Language sign for “I love you”!

5. Jelly Fish Hands

Another fun animal handprint idea for the parents working with just some paper and paint!

These little jellyfish ideas are so sweet and lend themselves to more fun love puns.

They can be made in any color with any size handprints and they make the perfect home decor as well! They’ll look adorable hanging on your fridge or string them together to make a festive garland.

6. Layered Family Handprints

How cute are these adorable layered handprints to create a Valentine’s Day original piece of art??

Using different colors of paints, start with the biggest hand in the family and move to the smallest to get the layered effect. Just make sure that each handprint completely dries before placing the next one on top to avoid smudging.

Then just label the top with the year you created it so you can look back on the memory and watch your child’s hand grow throughout the years!

7. Handprint Feathers

If you’re the type of parent that has tried every craft under the sun for every single holiday so now you’re looking for something a little different, look no further!

These handprint feather macaws are adorable and probably something your littles ones have never made before.

You can either use all the colors in the rainbow like the photo above or opt for Valentine’s Day themed colors. Use little hearts at the top or write “lovebirds” somewhere on the page to communicate the loving feeling of VDay!

8. Handprint Letters

An easy way to incorporate handprints into a fun Valentine craft is to sub letters for handprints in various Valentine’s Day themed words.

“O” is a great option for words like “love” or “you”. Get creative with what words you use!

Encourage your child to decorate the word however they want with different colors and glitters. What a perfect gift for mom or dad to surprise them with on the holiday of love.

9. Ceramic Handprints

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a sucker for anything ceramic and this adorable craft is no exception.

What I love about crafts like this one is they feel a little more special for both you and your toddler because they are more lasting. It’s great for Valentine’s Day but will also look cute on the wall year round!

You can find clay kits for crafts like these, or expand the fun by making your own clay and baking the finished product at home.

10. Heart Shaped Hands

Because why not make craft time even messier by covering not one, but BOTH hands with paint!

If you’re the parent of a toddler then you know, it was going to happen anyway so why not make something beautiful out of it?

Place both hands together, palm to palm, with fingers pointed out to create this lovely heart shape with the handprints. Reinforce the shape by framing it with paper hearts that can be decorated in any fashion that brings your toddler joy.

No tearing things out, no kitchen renovation budge No tearing things out, no kitchen renovation budget, no new appliances, no stripping the character, and NO AMAZON!

In 2025, I went a whole year without making a single purchase from Amazon to see if I could create my dream home without it. What I learned was, Amazon is actually the problem 🤣

Everyone says homes are losing character and interior design is starting to all look the same. It’s because we’re all buying the same 50 different pieces of decor from Amazon and those pieces on Amazon are just copying the other 50 pieces of decor from Target 🤣

The unsung heroes of a home filled with character and coziness are the antique stores and secondhand shops down the road from you. You don’t need a crazy budget or the next trending influencer piece, you need to spend a little time digging through thrift stores and scrolling through Facebook marketplace.

Let my home be the proof that shopping secondhand is the better way!

Also peep how the previous owners had the coolest things too 😩😩
