Western style is more than just an interior design or fashion trend, for many people it’s their way of life!

It’s not just a spring or summer fad, but something that can easily transition into winter and the holiday season as well.

You don’t have to retire your cow print and long horn skulls once the temperature starts to drop.

There are plenty of beautiful ways to embrace a western design theme in your home this holiday season.

In recent years, Christmas home decor has been becoming more neutral and less fun if you ask me.

I loved decking the halls of my childhood home with bright colors, campy Santa statues, and multicolored string lights every year!

This is the kind of Christmas I want to cultivate in my own home and these western Christmas decorating ideas are the perfect blend of beautiful and fun.

As always, these ideas are budget friendly. Not only that, but they’re beginner and DIY friendly as well!

So saddle up all you cowboys and cowgirls for the fifteen best western Christmas decorating ideas to copy this coming holiday season.

1. Red Buffalo Plaid

I have always had an obsession with red buffalo check patterns for home decor, but it is especially fitting around Christmas time.

Bedrooms can be a tough place to decorate for the holidays, but sometimes all it takes is swapping your pillowcases and sheets or adding a comfy throw at the foot of the bed.

This western themed bedding is perfect for Christmas time! The little red howdy throw pillow is the perfect cherry on top as well.

2. Long Horn Wreath

What I love most about wreaths and their popularity around the holidays is just how customizable this decor piece truly is.

As long as it is circular and festive, it’s a wreath, so have some fun with personalizing it!

Add a wood cutout of a long horn cow skull to the center of your holiday wreath to instantly give it some western charm.

3. Cowboy Hats on Statues

Credit: @singlewidestyle

I’m all about the little details in decor that can turn a generic holiday mantel into something straight out of a curated antique store.

This is one of those cute little details that doesn’t break the bank, and hardly takes up any time to execute.

Simply place little cowboy hats on all the preexisting holiday decor throughout your house! You don’t have to purchase all new things to embrace a western theme this winter.

4. Antlers in the Tree

We’ve all done garland in trees and maybe we’ve even done bows or pinecones, but have you ever considered antlers?

I can tell you right now that it probably isn’t an idea I would have come up with on my own, but I’m obsessed with this tree by Vintage Cowgirl Cases!

Decorative antlers aren’t that expensive and the best thing about them is you can use them outside of the holiday season for western decor throughout your home as well.

5. Christmas Cactus

Credit: @thewoodbutchercompany

Umm obsessed has to be an understatement for this incredibly clever and adorable homemade Christmas cactus!

For those looking for a truly unique way to embrace the cowboy Christmas theme this year, this cactus is the idea for you.

You can DIY the structure with chicken wire, then simply wrap in green garland until you can’t see any open spaces in the wire. Finish off with a string of lights and some ornaments for the effect to really work!

6. Horseshoes on the Tree

Whenever embracing a western theme in your home decor or designing in a ranch style home, it’s basically mandatory to include horse shoes.

This can be done many different ways, but it’s especially fun for Christmas to place them on the tree for all to see.

Go big and bold like this oversized silver sparkly one in the photo above, or opt for something more subtle and add 3-5 smaller ones all throughout the tree.

7. Cowhide Tree Skirt

If you’re even scrolling through this blog post, then I probably don’t have to sell you on the idea of using more cow hide print in your home.

This holiday season, you don’t have to break the bank by purchasing an authentic rug or wall hang.

Just add a touch of western flare by using a cow print throw as your tree skirt! Easy and effective, just my kind of holiday decor.

8. Long Horn Santa

I think this is just the cutest idea ever and the kind of thing that future grandkids will be saying “remember how grandma always put a Santa hat on her cow” for years to come.

That’s the kind of grandma I know I want to be!

Embrace being a little silly with your Christmas decor this year because life is too short to always have your home looking sophisticated and elegant. Sometimes a little campy is best!

9. Cowboy Boot Stockings

Credit: @cheyswindle

I’m a firm believer that one of the investments you should make when it comes to holiday decor is in some high quality stockings.

We were a stocking stuffer family and when you’re filling your stockings with goodies to the brim every year, those babies have to be durable!

Plus, they’re always the item placed dead center in the room for everyone to see. So treat yourself to some western themed stockings you really love like these adorable cowboy boots. The Wrangler one is my favorite!

10. Western Santa Dish Towels

Dish towels are one of my favorite ways to spruce up my home decor for any holiday because it is so cheap and easy to do.

These cowboy Santa dish towels are adorable and the perfect amount of silly to add to your Christmas decorations.

Place dish towels on the handle of your stove, refrigerator, folded nicely by the sink, or anywhere else in the kitchen that could use some extra oomph!

11. Cowboy Gift Tags

Credit: @taliawhatcottart

For those looking for a sweet and subtle way to make their Christmas a little more cowboy, consider using western themed gift tags!

It’s not in your face and it’s really only for those who you’ve purchased presents for, but that’s what makes this so special.

What I love most about this idea is how it can expand beyond the house! Put these gift tags on presents for friends or out of town family so they can enjoy your western Christmas as well.

12. Southwestern Wrapping Paper

A Christmas tree simply doesn’t look complete without a slew of wrapped presents underneath the lowest branches.

Wrapping paper with a wester pattern like this would look so chic and beautiful on top of your cow hide print tree skirt and underneath your antler lined tree!

If you are especially crafty, wrap your presents a white paper or even in brown paper bags, and draw the western print yourself.

13. Cow Hide Stockings

Credit: @holycowcouture

How gorgeous are these authentic cow hide stockings? I love that it isn’t just the print, but they are actually made from hide and have the texture to show for it.

Just imagine a rustic fireplace mantle lined with cowhide stockings of all different colors and patterns.

This has to be one of my favorite western Christmas decorating ideas on this list!

14. Ranch Themed Table Settings

In my house, Christmas morning is fun, but the heart of Christmas is all about the dinner.

While everyone else’s eyes are on the trees and stockings, my eyes naturally drift towards a beautiful holiday tablescape!

Make your Christmas dinner table full of western spirit this year by adding buffalo check placemats and rustic tin cannister centerpieces.

15. Stuffed Boots

On my blog posts dedicated to home decorating ideas, I always love to save my favorite idea for last. This post is no exception to the rule!

I really love to go all out on decorating my front door. Some of my favorite holiday memories are driving around town to see everyone’s decorated homes.

Because I know there must be families out there still doing this, I try to do something a little creative every year. This year I will definitely be recreating these pine stuff cowgirl boots!

Why stick to something as boring as a classic wreath for your front door when options like this exist?

Amazon links have become so common that we don’t Amazon links have become so common that we don’t even think twice about using them, but should we?

I used to shop from Amazon WEEKLY. Picking up little things here and there to follow trends or utilizing the ease of fast delivery to my door.

But I never felt great about it knowing that there were small businesses out there that needed my money more. I just never knew where to find them.

That’s why I wanted to create this platform! To make shopping small and secondhand feel easy and sexy again.

If you’re not convinced yet, here are my top 3 reasons to stop shopping Amazon:
1. Sustainability- In 2019, Amazon’s carbon emissions (ONE company) surpassed that of the entire country of Norway. And it’s only grown since (like by A LOT).
2. Unfair Pay for Workers- Though they’re a multi-billion dollar corporation, most employees aren’t making enough to support their families.
3. THERE ARE NO ETHICAL BILLIONAIRES- I don’t want Jeff Bezos getting a penny from me 🥰

I also feel strongly that delivery services are the greatest contributor to the loneliness epidemic we’re experiencing today. We belong in public spaces, interacting with other humans at thrift stores and brick and mortar shops.

If any of this resonates with you, give @romanticizingrach a follow so together we can find the best small business alternatives and hold each other accountable to shopping secondhand 🫶🏻

I only kind of mean it as a joke 😅😅

There’s nothing wrong with loving a trend and wanting to recreate it in your home! I get inspired by other creators and their homes on the daily.

But I do think that Amazon and LTK have made it a little too easy to copy and paste what you see in someone else’s home!

We’ve lost a little bit of the ability to be INSPIRED. I mean in a way that drives you to find your own personal expression.

I offer this as a challenge, that next time you see a photo of an interior that you truly love…instead of buying all the same things, take a deeper look.

WHAT about the photo do you love? Is it a color scheme? A certain layout or maybe a style of lighting?

Could you find something similar at a secondhand store that’s a better reflection of you and your home? I bet ya could!

And if it really is a certain item that just ticks every box for you, then go ahead and find that link and get yourself that piece 🙂‍↕️

Social media and content is designed to get you whipping out that credit card every time you open the app. The coolest form of resistance is being slow and thoughtful about your spending 😎

Plus, your home will automatically become a better of reflection of YOU and not your fav influencer 😍
